On the 23rd of May 2021, the second training course for raising and building the capacities of the Sudanese Rapid Support Forces in the field of human rights took place at the Burri Police House, as organized by the Geneva Institute for Human Rights - Sudan Office, in cooperation with the Al-Junaid Foundation for Peace and Development.
Human Rights Police Major General and Director of the Police House, Osama Kinin Al-Awad, expressed his appreciation and highlighted the pivotal role of the Al-Junaid Foundation for Peace and Development and the Geneva Institute for Human Rights in the field of human rights through the organization of this session, further stressing that human rights is, without a doubt, a global issue, and that States have a moral and legal duty to adhere to it.
As stated in the Declaration of Human Duties and Responsibilities (DHDR) : “As the holders of human rights and fundamental freedoms, all individuals, peoples, and communities in the exercise of their rights and freedoms, have the duty and responsibility to respect those of others, and a duty to strive for the promotion and observance thereof”.
Professor Nazar Abdelgadir Saleh, Executive Director of the Geneva Institute for Human Rights, highlighted that Sudan is on a promising route considering its potential accession to two important human rights instruments, namely the United Nations Convention against Torture and the Protection of Persons from Enforced Disappearance and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), with the Cabinet's approval, despite reservations placed.
Furthermore, Mr. Nazar Abdelgadir revealed the details of the training course, and expressed the intention to produce results that would benefit the trainees in enhancing their capabilities with the intention of strengthening the enforcement of humanitarian laws.
In conclusion, Major General Khaled Nour Al-Daem, representing the Rapid Support Forces Command, affirmed the RSF’s strict adherence to applying laws and regulations and effectively reprimanding those in violation of legal controls.
The inauguration of the second training session began with a focus on matters of marriage, divorce and parenthood.
