Opening of the GIHR Sudan Office!

Yesterday evening, on the 6th of June, the opening ceremony of the GIHR office in Sudan took place, in the presence of various officials including: Dr. Maryam Al-Sadiq (Minister of Foreign Affairs), Dr. Ahmed Adam Bakhit (Minister of Social Development), as well as representative of the Ministries of Defense and Justice, representatives of diplomatic missions, the European Union, United Nations and human rights organizations, and finally a number of universities and individuals with an interest in the field of human rights.

It is worth noting that although the official opening of the Sudan Office took place this month, the Institute has actively operated in Sudan since 2004, providing many programs in support of human rights and the rule of law in cooperation with various governmental and non-governmental institutions.

Professor Nazar Abdelgader Saleh, Executive Director of the Geneva Institute for Human Rights, revealed that the development of the first Sudanese National Action Plan for the implementation of Security Council Resolution 1325 (Women, Peace & Security) for the transitional period, which was approved by the Council of Ministers in March 2020, is one of the most important achievements for the Institute and the State.

Moreover, the Executive Director confirmed that the Institute is expecting to practice its human rights activities in all states of Sudan, and its doors will be open to provide advisory and training services and technical support to all.
