GOAL : Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.
There has been a rapid growth increase in the global human population, and is expected to increase from 7.7 billion to 9.7 billion in 2050, according to a 2019 United Nations report.
Moreover, air pollution caused 4.2 premature deaths in 2016 and only HALF of the world’s urban population has access to public transport. Therefore action is required to enrich the lives of inhabitants.
Within that context, intelligent urban planning that factors safe, affordable and resilient cities with inspiring living conditions is crucial to achieving prosperous and sustainable cities.
To ensure that cities and communities are sustainable by 2030, the ten target goals are as follows :
Ensure access for all to adequate, safe and affordable housing and basic services
Provide access to safe, affordable, accessible and sustainable transport systems for all,
Inclusive and sustainable urbanization
Strengthen efforts to protect and safeguard the world’s cultural and natural heritage.
Reduce the adverse effects of natural disasters
Reduce the environmental impact of cities
Provide universal access to safe, inclusive and accessible, green and public spaces,
Strong national and regional development planning
Implement policies for inclusion, resource efficiency and disaster risk reduction
Support least developed countries in sustainable and resilient building
